The first time we visited Six Flags we had heard that a new Thomas Town was opening and we were excited to surprise the boys. Unfortunately it was still under construction; we were a month early. While we were planning a return trip we learned the Jelly Belly factory was nearby so we decided to add that as a place to visit at the same time. It worked out because Six Flags was only opened in the evening for its special holiday-themed events. We also planned a better drive route. Last time we took Highway 101 and didn't know it would suddenly dropped us into downtown San Francisco!! We had to wind around streets and then found ourselves driving across the Golden Gate Bridge. That added nearly an hour to the drive time!
What a big jelly bean! At the Jelly Belly factory, we took the free 45-minute tour; very cool. It's just like what we've seen on the Food Network's Unwrapped! Of course everyone got free jelly beans. Then we hopped back in the car and headed over to Six Flags. Thomas Town was open! Even though there are only three rides: Harold the helicopter, Bertie the bus, and Thomas the Train, it's impressive. Designed just like Knapford Station, all the kids went crazy when they saw Thomas pull up into the station.
It was worth the return trip!
We didn't need to rush home so we stayed over at a Crown Plaza. What kid doesn't love a hotel stay?! I love it too; this hotel room had two queen-sized sleigh beds and tons of pillows. But the best part is the doors have that double-locked! So once everyone was cleaned up and in their jammies, I got under the thick down covers, put my head down on the pillow and didn't even worry about the boys. They could run around the room all they wanted. They couldn't get out. (and James was watching ESPN). This was my vacation too.
