Our local public library hosted a Fall Festival recently. All the kids got a free pumpkin to paint. Painting is much safer than carving -- and the pumpkin lasts longer too. The boys really enjoyed it:

Jonah's finished pumpkin is on the right, but he got tired of me taking pictures and wanted refreshments. (Popcorn and apple cider were served. Yum yum!)
A number of young adults volunteered with crafts and games. Here they are making a paper pumpkin with strips of orange paper, a brad clip, and piece of pipe cleaner.
I started taking the boys to the library when we were in Monterey. It was really fun; stories, songs, stickers, snacks and hanging out with other kids. That was one thing I had to keep up after we moved here.
The preschool storytime here is a lot more intimate; less than a dozen kids. I like the is a color blocks rug for the kids to sit. Jonah has a tendency to cling to me, so I told him only kids are allowed to sit on the rug, moms are too big, and to pick his favorite color square. Each week he sits on the same red block. (good training for school). The librarian reads two or three stories, sings some songs, and we end with a simple craft project.
The library time is good for Jonah (Noah's class uses the school's library). He's gotten wise to things like hand-me-down clothes from Noah, or that Noah gets to ride the school bus and go to school; he regularly asks when does he got to ride the bus. For now he has the library. Here are some of his recent art projects:
