Going to the movies is not near the top of my list of things to do with the boys. It's expensive! I'm glad there aren't many "must see" movies for us and we enjoy borrowing movies and TV series from the local library. We also take advantage of the Army base theater. Movies shown there seem to be two months behind the general release, which doesn't bother us. The nice thing about the base theater is the security factor and family-friendly environment.
The one time I took the boys to the movies without James, who had to study, was in Monterey. A free mid-morning screening of "Speed Racer" for the first 100 people was offered at the mall theater. Since it was a public place we had to stick together -- at all times.
Not at the base theater. We always sit in the back row or next-to-last-row (where I can see the bathroom doors, if Noah has to go) and we can bring our own snacks, but we almost always get a popcorn and a soda combo because it's unlimited refills! But the most unique thing about seeing a movie on base is the playing of the National Anthem before a film starts; everyone knows to stand up (and the boys will put their right hands over their hearts). On the screen will be a collage of the various branches of the military and different things service people do around the world. It's a deep heart-warming reminder!
Most recently we saw "The Spy Next Door" starring Jackie Chan. He has aged, but he still does those crazy stunts! It was an ok movie, the kids like it...next up, "Tooth Fairy," starring the Rock. We can't wait until Toy Story 3...I imagine the theater will be jam-packed, maybe there will be multiple showings. Well, that will be the late summer...
